Peer review policy
How manuscripts are evaluated.
Lumen operates single-anonymous peer review: reviewers know the authors' identities, but authors are not told who reviewed their work unless reviewers choose to sign their reports.
The process
- Editorial assessment. An editor reads the manuscript and decides whether to send it for review.
- Review. Typically two or three experts assess the work against our criteria.
- Decision. The editor weighs the reports and makes a decision: accept, revise or reject.
- Revision. Authors respond point by point; the revised version may be returned to the reviewers.
Appeals
Authors may appeal a decision by writing to the editor with a detailed rebuttal. Appeals are considered by a different editor.
