About the journal
Our values
The commitments that guide Oncology Nexus, and how you can support the journal.
Oncology Nexus is built on the premise that progress against cancer happens where disciplines, and people, meet. Six commitments guide how we work.
What we stand for
- Free to publish, free to read. We charge no submission or publication fees, and every article is free to read and reuse under CC BY 4.0. Cost should never decide whose research is published or who can read it.
- Peer review is skilled work, and we pay for it. We believe peer review should be paid work. Fair payment lets us ask for, and expect, thorough methodological assessment, which is how we protect the quality of everything we publish.
- Rigor over results. Manuscripts are judged on the quality of their methods and the value of their question, not on the direction of their findings. Well-designed studies with null or negative results are welcome.
- Research that reaches people. Every article carries a Plain-Language Summary, so that findings reach the patients, clinicians and communities they are meant to serve.
- Every voice belongs. Patients, survivors, family members, caregivers and social workers write for the journal alongside researchers and clinicians. Researchers have as much to learn from these accounts as communities have to learn from research.
- Independent and transparent. Editorial decisions are made solely on scientific merit and relevance to our scope, and our policies on peer review, AI use and research integrity are published in full.
Support the journal
Because we charge neither authors nor readers, Oncology Nexus depends on the generosity of people and organizations who share these values. Your donation helps us to:
- keep publishing free for authors and articles free for readers;
- pay reviewers fairly for rigorous, reproducible peer review;
- prepare Plain-Language Summaries and share research with patients and the public;
- give patients, caregivers and community members a place to be heard.
We welcome gifts from individuals, patient and community organizations, foundations and institutions. Donors have no influence over editorial decisions, and donations are kept entirely separate from the review and publication of any manuscript.
To make a donation or discuss a partnership, please contact the journal. Thank you for helping us keep cancer research open to everyone.
