Research is most valuable when anyone can read and build on it. From this issue, all research articles in this journal are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution licence.
We have worked with funders and institutions to ensure that publication charges do not become a barrier, and we offer full waivers for authors without funding. Our editorial standards and selection criteria are unchanged: decisions are made by editors without knowledge of the authors' ability to pay.
We will report openly on how the transition affects submissions and readership, and we welcome feedback from our community.
